==== Welcome to Scotgate ==== === me: I'm Chris, AKA Ferg, AKA Fergycool === I've bounced between using Linux, Macs, OpenVMS, and OS/2 all my working life. After a very early career in printing I went back to university and Molecular Biology, which strayed near bioinformatics and now just marketing for a small scientific Mac software company. I'm late to collecting vintage Macs with Mac OS! Although I've been using MacOS9/OSX onwards for work it was only many, many years ago back at university that I used a variety of "classic Macs. So my discovery of Marchintosh and GlobalTalk was exciting. Unfortunately this was all motivated by a major clearout of some old Macs, including my beloved G4 MDD! Which I immediately regretted but then got a G4 Mac Mini to run Mac OS9 and that's where it started all over again! I got involved at the tail end of Marchintosh 2024, but once I got Globaltalk working I've kept my zone online more or less since then. I'm not a skilled developer and the ingenuity and imagination of others on Globaltalk continues to astound me. But what I am good at is being a jack of all trades :-) My lack of focus really makes me bounce around projects, never finishing them! I've learnt to accept this and for once this retro Mac hobby really fits in nicely. === Zone = Scotgate: === Here's my collection of 68k,PPC,minivmac/QEMU VMs, Netatalk shares and AIR or Jrouter. // Note: I like to name machines on my network after the music I am listening to when I configure networking on that computer (or the last music I listened to). // My Macs may be online or not, but they all have a shared folder. Please do drop a calling card in this box or send me a "Powertalk" email. thearmed's email is generally on but others may be too! === Infrastructure === == Georgia == This is a Debian box running Netatalk4 via Docker. == wolfalice == The above are all tied together via Tashrouter and Jrouter running on a Raspberry Pi- === Computers === == Tycho == System 7.5.5 running via minivmac. == lcdsoundsystem == A 7.1.1 VM running via QEMU on a Debian box with AIR. Initially this was my own image, but I thought using the nicely prepared image was a better idea! Now using jrouter instead. == asiandubfoundation == This is a G4 Mac Mini running Mac OS9.2.2 using the image prepared at http://macosninelives. This is the Mac that got me back into vintage Macs after giving away my precious MDD six years ago as I needed the space (Boo hiss!). == jonhopkins == A Quadra 610. My first recapped Mac. This was a bit of a mission to get done. Now running Mac OS 7.5.5 via BlueSCSI. RAM has been maxed out at 68Mb. == fontainesdc == An SE/30 running 7.1.1 Pro. Logic board had already been recapped, but the video had vertical black lines. Needed a bodge wire. Now up and running with the 1GB HDD from the Quadra. == thearmed == An SE/30 running 7.5.3 with a reloaded board from Caymac Vintage (a thing of beauty). I bought this very cheap from a local guy. It had been very badly battery bombed. I started removing components and cleaning but after a few months and on the advice of many even if I had the skills the board was probably beyond salvage. My skills are not enough for a reloaded board myself so I used Will's service. What a great guy! == superfurryanimals == Macintosh SE. Bought in great condition although the PSU was shot. Used a PicoPSU with 4MB of RAM and a BlueSCSI. Running 7.1. I tried 6.0.8 but whereas the performance was fast I found it a bit of a chore to use. === Printers === == Scotgate_laserwriter 4/600 == A Laserwriter 4/600 that I spent some time restoring and is now in lovely condition! == 100percentendurance == An Imagewriter II with Polpo's ImageScrobbler Localtalk option card! ...and here's Fizz on a tree stump. {{:fizzonalog.jpeg?400|}} === Contact details === @fergycool@mastodon.social https://scotgate.org scotgate.globaltalk.wiki
